Create with Preset Page and Section Layouts

When designing a website as a beginner, it's beneficial to start with preset templates or pages. This approach allows you to explore and modify various elements, add images, and adjust proportions with ease. In Framer, you can access these templates by pressing 'I' for Insert and navigating to the basics section, where you'll find pages with different types and layouts. Inserting a page from here gives you a solid foundation to build upon.

  • Insert a Page → Sidebar
  • Set images to Unsplash → Mountains (or any keyword) and click Random Photo

Editing Page

Additionally, you have the option to start with a blank or existing page and then insert new sections. For instance, you might begin with a hero section and add alternating sub-sections to craft a comprehensive landing page, a common structure in modern websites. This method offers effortless customization and ensures your layout is adaptive from the start.

  • Insert Page → The Landing Page
  • Remove and Add Section
  • Add Menu and move using Up and Down arrows

New Page

While generating a page automatically includes breakpoints, manually adding new sections doesn’t set them by default. However, learning to add breakpoints is a straightforward process, which you'll become more comfortable with as you progress through the course. This blend of using preset templates and adding custom sections allows for both ease and flexibility in web design, catering to both aesthetics and functionality.

  • Create a New Page
  • Set the 2 new Breakpoints
  • Insert Menu, Hero, Grid, Testimonials and Pricing
  • Add images using Unsplash “Mountains”

Logos

For content, you can easily replace objects with Framer Elements such as logos, videos, GIFs and more.

  • Select a Logo and right-click → Replace Width… → Framer → Logo
  • Replace some of the images with YouTube and GoogleMaps.

Colors and Gradient Presets

Framer Fill provides various options for adding color and gradients to your designs. Here are the different types of fill options available in Framer:

Image 28

  • Solid Color: The solid color fill preset allows you to choose a single color for your elements. You can select from a wide range of colors or input a specific color code. This is a simple and straightforward option for adding color to your design.
  • Linear Gradient: The linear gradient fill creates a smooth transition between two colors in a straight line. You can choose the starting and ending colors as well as the direction of the gradient. This allows for more dynamic and visually appealing color effects.
  • Radial Gradient: The radial gradient fill creates a circular gradient effect. You can choose the inner and outer colors, as well as the position and size of the gradient. This type of fill is often used to create a spotlight effect or to highlight certain elements in the design.
  • Conic Gradient: The conic gradient fill creates a gradient that radiates from a central point. You can choose the starting and ending colors, as well as the position and angle of the gradient. This type of fill is great for creating circular color patterns or for adding a sense of movement to the design.
  • Image Patterns: The image pattern fill allows you to use images as backgrounds or patterns in your design. You can choose from a library of images or upload your own. This gives you the flexibility to create unique and personalized designs by incorporating images into your fill options.

Preview and Publishing

Framer Preview enables real-time design testing, allowing you to resize your layout both vertically and horizontally. This mirrors a browser experience, helping you evaluate and refine your design's adaptability across different screen sizes. By adjusting your view, you ensure your layout responds well, providing a seamless user experience on any device.

To view your site directly from Framer, you can click on the Play button in the top right. To publish the site to a public URL so that anyone can visit, click on Publish. Then, you can click on the url generated uniquely for you.

Page Settings

In Framer, site configuration settings play a crucial role in optimizing your website for both users and search engines. Here are the key components:

  1. Title: The title of your website should be concise and reflective of your brand or content. It's displayed in browser tabs and search results, making it essential for SEO and user recognition.
  2. Description: This brief summary introduces your site's content to potential visitors. A compelling description can improve click-through rates from search results. Keep it under 160 characters for optimal SEO performance.
  3. Uploading an Image: Adding a high-quality image as your site's thumbnail or preview ensures a visually appealing representation in search results and social shares. This image should be relevant and engaging.
  4. SEO Best Practices:

    • Keywords: Integrate relevant keywords naturally into your title, description, and content to improve your site's search visibility.
    • Mobile Responsiveness: Ensure your site is mobile-friendly, as this significantly affects your search ranking.
    • Loading Speed: Optimize images and scripts to enhance your site's loading time. Faster sites provide a better user experience and are favored by search engines.
    • Meta Tags: Utilize meta tags for additional information about your site's content, helping search engines understand and index your pages more effectively.

By focusing on these settings and practices, you can significantly enhance your site's SEO performance and user experience, making your content more discoverable and engaging.
