Custom Layout
Creating layouts from scratch is a highly skilled and professional approach that allows for complete customization and originality.
- Create a basic text title and text and set the width to 510 Fixed.
- For the title, use Inter 60 Medium.
- For the text, size 16, line 1.5, opacity 70.
Buttons
In Framer, texts and buttons can be customized and made interactive. You can start with the shape and size of your button, typically a rectangle, and ensure it's appropriately sized for accessibility. Apply your brand color to the button and use a legible font for the text following your design system's typography guidelines.
- Create a Frame 190x44. Set the radius to 10.
- Press Enter and type Start Free Trial.
- Insert an Icon from Feather Icon and set to Chevron Right.
Color Styles and Dark Mode
To switch between light and dark mode in Framer, you can use the theme property. You can set the appropriate colors by defining color variants for both light and dark mode in the theme. Use the colors property to specify the colors for different elements like text, background, and buttons in each mode. You can learn more about colors in a design system here.
- Select the 2 texts and go to Color: Styles → Create [+].
- Name Foreground. Tap on the Night icon and set to White.
- In Dark Mode, select the Canvas and to go Fill: Styles → Create.
- Name Background and in Dark Mode, set to Black, Light Mode to White.
Text Styles
In Framer, text styles are designed to manage and apply reusable visual properties such as font, size, and color to text elements across different pages of your site, ensuring consistency and efficiency in your design process. You can learn more about typography in a design system here.
- Select the Title and click on Styles in the Inspector. Select New Style and Heading 1.
- Select the body text and click on Styles. Remove the default Body and click on New Style. Select Paragraph.
Text Style Breakpoints
Breakpoints for text styles are a design strategy used to adjust text size, weight, and layout based on the viewer's screen size, ensuring readability and a seamless user experience across devices. This approach involves setting specific screen widths (breakpoints) at which the website's text styles will change. For example, a headline might appear larger on a desktop view but smaller on a mobile device to better fit the screen's constraints.
- Tip: typically, only titles need breakpoints for Medium and Small. Body texts rarely need breakpoints.
- In Assets, select Heading 1 and in Breakpoints, click on Add Breakpoints. Select Small (S) and set to 44.
Interactive Elements
Framer offers a variety of interactive elements to enhance user experience. These elements include animations, sliders, and scrolling effects. By utilizing these interactive features, designers can create engaging and dynamic interactions that make their websites or apps more user-friendly and visually appealing.
Date
This feature allows you to display the current date, ensuring your content remains timely and relevant. By setting it to Type: Date, you integrate a dynamic element that keeps your site updated in real-time, enhancing the user's experience with up-to-date information.
- Insert the Time & Date element.
- Set to Type: Date.
Ticker
The Ticker is a versatile element designed to dynamically display scrolling content, capturing the audience's attention immediately. Enhance its functionality by inserting images, videos, and connecting it to various UI components within Framer, such as Menu Mixed, Menu Split, and Menu Rows. It's an effective tool for presenting highlights, news, or promotions in an engaging, continuously moving display.
- Insert (I) a Ticker from the Interactive Elements.
- Resize to fill the width and set the Height to 300.
- Insert a Menu Mixed, Menu Split and Menu Rows.
- Connect from the Ticker to the 3 menus.
Countdown
Adding a Countdown element to your site introduces a sense of urgency or anticipation for upcoming events or deadlines. Positioned 60 pixels from the bottom, it's strategically placed to catch the user's eye without overwhelming the main content. This tool is perfect for event pages or special announcements, encouraging user interaction and keeping visitors informed about important timelines.
- Insert the Countdown.
- Place at 60 from bottom.
Conclusion
In conclusion, creating custom layouts and utilizing interactive elements are essential strategies to enhance user experience and make your website or app stand out. By following the tips and techniques outlined in this guide, you can create visually appealing designs that are both engaging and user-friendly. Remember to explore the various elements and features available in Framer to make your design truly unique and impactful. With proper planning and creativity, you can create a website or app that not only looks great but also provides an enjoyable and seamless user experience.
