Import useState
In order to use useState, you'll need to import it at the top of the file. Don't forget to also import React as we still need it for our button component.

Anatomy of a useState hook
The useState consists of three parts: the state variable, the function to set the state, and the initial value. Take a look at the image below that defines these three parts.
Declare a state variable
Next, we'll need to declare our state variable with the useState hook. Let's create one called count that states the number of times the user clicked on our button component. The initial value will be set to 0.
const [count, setCount] = useState(0)
In our button, we'll replace the 0 with the count variable we just defined.
<button>You clicked {count} times</button>;
When on the user clicks on the button, we'll need to increment the count. So we'll use the onClick attribute to setCount(count + 1).
<button onClick={() => setCount(count + 1)}>You clicked {count} times</button>;
Final code with styling
You can style your components by using the styled-components package in your project. Learn more about it in the Styling in React section of this handbook.
The final code with the useState hook and styled-components will look like this:

When should I use useState?
useState should be used when you want to set a local state for your component. If you want to set a global state for your entire app, useContext will be more helpful than useState. For example, if you want to set the logged in or logged out state on your application, useContext will create a global state to tell if the user is logged in or logged out for your entire website.
